Reading Students' Union is looking for an Energy Adviser! 

The student staff member in this role will help develop, launch, and deliver a new energy advice service for students, working within Reading Students' Union Advice Service. 

Accountabilities:

The key accountabilities of the post holder will be to:

  • Work closely with the wider Advice Service, University Sustainability team and School of Construction Management
  • Promote the service through social media, web content and other relevant opportunities, including attendance at events
  • Provide advice to students on energy contracts, saving energy, and related topics
  • Lead on reporting on the impact of the Energy Advice Service

Responsibilities:

  • Create web content, explaining and promoting the Energy Advice Service alongside the Reading Students’ Union Digital and Communications 
  • Attend ad hoc events to promote the service and provide associated advice
  • Respond to telephone, email, MS Teams and face-to-face queries to provide advice on energy contracts and energy efficiency
  • Produce tailored written energy advice through the use and selection of relevant template guidance
  • Record advice given within the policies and procedures of the Advice Service
  • Undertake other ad hoc administrative tasks in the promotion and delivery of the service
  • Network with other Energy Advice Services, as well as other relevant organisations
  • Signpost to other areas of the Advice Service as required

Relevant training and support will be provided for the role.

Experience 

  • Experience of working in an administrative role
  • Working effectively on own initiative
  • Able to work as part of a team
  • Interest and enthusiasm for sustainability (however studying for a sustainability-related degree is not necessary)
  • An understanding of home energy contracts for students
  • An understanding of home energy efficiency
  • Experience working with students or young people
  • Experience working in an advice setting
  • Experience using an electronic case recording system, such as AdvicePro

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills

  • Able to give written and verbal information in a clear and concise manner
  • IT literate and working knowledge of Microsoft Office software (Word, Excel, Access, Outlook)
