Student Staff - Techie

Job Purpose: 

To assist the Venue Management team with the setup and operation of audio visual equipment within the Students’ Union venue. 

To assist the Venue Technical Manager in the general maintenance of the equipment and relevant spaces within the venue.

Main Duties: 

Operation of AV equipment

  • To setup all equipment safely, efficiently and in accordance with instructions given.
  • To liaise with the Technical Manager and external parties / promoters as required regarding the technical requirements for the event.
  • To ensure an excellent standard of operation according to requirements of the event.
  • To troubleshoot and remedy any problems arising during setup or operation, consulting the Venue Technical Manager when required.

Preparation of the venue

  • To ensure the spaces within the venue are set up appropriately according to the event, including all safety equipment, furniture, visual systems and ambient lighting.

General maintenance and Cleaning

  • To ensure the good condition of all equipment and report any faults to the Venue Technical Manager.
  • To maintain an excellent level of tidiness and cleanliness across all public and staff only areas, before, during and after opening hours.

Uphold Reading Students' Union policies

  • To observe and work within Health and Safety guidance as outlined in training.
  • To uphold and promote the licensing objectives while conducting licensable activities.
  • To be flexible in your approach to work and willing to undertake other duties as required.

Hours of work: Part-time role for student staff on a zero-hour contract. Expectation would be 5-10 hours per week during semester. Peak times such as Welcome week would be busier and require more hours, while quieter weeks such as enhancement week would be likely to require fewer hours.
