Casual Student Staff (Hospitality)

Responsible to: 

  • Operations Manager (Bar and Ents)
  • Venue Managers
  • Bar Supervisors (Student Staff)

Job Purpose:
To work across all commercial areas with Reading SU (Bar, Nightclub and Merchandise Store).
To serve customers and assist in the running of the commercial areas within Reading SU. 
To assist the commercial management team in the running of RUSUs commercial outlets as required.

Main Duties:
Service of customers

  • To serve customers in a polite and friendly manner, displaying high standards of customer service at all times
  • To process and maintain accurate transaction records for all sales.

Preparation of products

  • To ensure all products (food and drink) are prepared to a high standard and to the specification provided in training, guidance and to the customers preference.

Stock Control and Cleaning

  • To ensure good stock rotation and advise management of any stock levels that are running low.
  • To maintain an excellent level of tidiness and cleanliness across all public and staff only areas, before, during and after opening hours.

Uphold RUSU policies

  • To observe and work within Health and Safety guidance as outlined in training.
  • To uphold and promote the licensing objectives while conducting licensable activities.
  • To be flexible in your approach to work and willing to undertake other duties as required

Hours of work:
Part-time role for student staff on a zero-hour contract. Expectation would be around 7-15 hours per week during term time.
Peak times such as Welcome week would be busier and may require more hours, while quieter weeks such as enhancement week would be likely to require fewer hours.
All student staff are expected to be available to work either a Wednesday or Saturday evening each week (shifts between 9pm-3am).

Previous Experience

- Experience in a customer service role

- Experience of working within a team

- Experience of making and serving drinks/food

Skills and Knowledge

- Ability to multitask and prioritise

- Ability to work under pressure and to high demand

- Understanding of current student trends

- Experience of working within a licensed trade environment
